A Cornish Childhood by A L Rowse
adapted for voices by Judith Cook

The son of a St Austell clay worker who's family ran the village shop, A L Rowse won a scholarship to Oxford University and eventually became a fellow of All Souls. Dr Rowse's early autobiography has sold over a quarter of a million copies. This adaptation made by Judith Cook tells the story of his childhood in Cornwall during the First World War.
Sadly, Judith died before this CD was completed. This production is a tribute to her major contribution to Cornish theatre. The cast is all local and many were friends of Judith's.
Dalla, a group of musicians from Redruth, supplied the music for this production.

Jan Stone, a Life
These CDs contain a full length drama. They tell an imaginary life history conjured from a large collection of stories told about Jan Stone. These stories were enjoyed locally before television killed off the story telling habit. The action starts on Jan's first day at the Newlyn Board School and doesn't let up until his dying day. Jan's life was written for local voices and that's what you will find here. The accents are authentic and the dialect is delivered correctly. Dosen't 'ee worry, my 'ansome, the dialec' idn' difficult to follow and you'll soon 'git yer ear in'.
Volume One takes Jan from his school days up to his marriage to Elsie Hoskens whom he met on his first day at the Newlyn Board School. Volume Two covers the period from his marriage up to the day of his death.

Thunder & Lightning

Golowan is the feast of Saint John, patron saint of Penzance. It is celebrated at mid-summer with a programme of entertainments and celebrations which we enjoy enormously. This CD is a selection of tall tales and Cornish stories which have featured in recent celebrations. Why "Thunder & Lightning"? That's the name of a local concoction of bread splits, clotted cream and golden syrup. The different ingredients in this CD combine to make an equally harmonious whole.
